Eagle Valley Official Delphi Statement

Eagle Valley and its Board has recently learned of the horrible tragedy that occurred in Delphi, Indiana over six years ago, the murders of 13 year old Abigail Williams and 14 year old Liberty German. The investigation into these crimes has been ongoing and recently, alleged members of the Odinist faith have been made suspects in the case. Given the connection that has been made to Norse Paganism and Heathenry, we wish to make clear our position on this story.

We first wish to make it abundantly clear that any association between the alleged spiritual practices of the suspects in this case and what we do at Eagle Valley is completely nonexistent. We vehemently denounce any and all harm done against another human being, and we certainly condemn any such violence committed in the name of the gods. In the interest of being fully explicit and transparent, this is not how traditional Heathenry is practiced in any denomination or standard religious ceremony. These practices are not used or condoned by any modern Heathen organization, including Eagle Valley, and never will be. It has also been alleged that the suspects in question targeted Abby and Libby because “one of their mothers was ‘mixing’ with other people outside the mother’s race”. As an inclusive organization, Eagle Valley is committed to creating a diverse and welcoming community for all. We stand united in our desire to stamp out racism and any form of discrimination in our community.

Secondly, and more importantly, we want to extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Too often, the narratives surrounding these stories focus largely on the perpetrators of these horrific crimes rather than the people who live with the effects of such a terrible loss everyday. We have provided links to the Abby and Libby Memorial Park website and Facebook page so we can all further support and honor the memories of these two girls.
